No Regrets

Danny and I met at NYU in 2015. We were classmates, members of Cycle 26 of the MFA program in musical theatre writing. When we began writing together in William Finn’s class, we never could have guessed that songs we wrote in response to Bill’s prompts were the beginning of what is now, Regretting Almost Everything. Nor would we have dared to dream that one day, two of Broadway’s greatest, Beth Leavel and Jeff Blumenkrantz, would record some of those songs.

A lot has happened to us and the show since 2015. Our collaboration has grown and strengthened. Among other things, we have a written Mimosa, a musical featuring a plant as the protagonist. Regretting Almost Everything has evolved from a cabaret show into a full-length, two-person musical comedy. With a concept album!

When we decided to make the album, we didn’t know anything. We didn’t know who would sing on it. We didn’t know that Danny would orchestrate for an 8-piece orchestra. We didn’t know that meeting and working with our producing team, Kathy Sommer and Matt Anthony, would be among the best thing we’ve ever done.

We had no idea how much time, work and money would be involved. Had we known, I doubt we would have made the album.

So, I say, here’s to ignorance! Making the album wasn’t easy, but things have happened along the way that we wouldn’t trade for anything.

We’ll write about some of those moments in this blog. We hope you enjoy.
