Recap and Update
Regretting Almost Everything. A musical about Love. A musical about Sex. A musical about Kids. About marriage. About marriage to a person who realizes late in life that they’re gay. A musical about forgiveness. A musical featuring an older woman who cares about having good sex. A musical about an older woman who want to continue living an interesting life.
Regretting was originally commissioned by our friend and mentor, William Finn. He told me — Lauren — to write what only I could write: The story of a long marriage.
The first iteration of the show was done at Mr. Finn’s Cabaret at Barrington Stage Company in August of 2017. It featured Anne L. Nathan and Jeff Blumenkrantz. The show was SRO, with people returning to see it a second time.
We were invited to do the show at 54 Below in New York in April of 2018. We did.
We’re continuing to promote the show on Insta and YouTube. We’re going song by song. On Insta, we’re posting a little bit about each particular song. Some nugget of info. We’re posting lyric videos on YouTube. Many of the clips on YouTube have thousands of views, though those tend to be the ones featuring Beth Leavel and Jeff, who did the Concept Album. I don’t know why these videos have so many views, or who’s watching them.
According to Spotify, the most streamed song from the show last month was “Elle.” I don’t know why.
I don’t know anything. If you’re reading this, and you have a minute, write and let us know. I’m very curious to know if anyone reads this and, if so, why.
Thanks.
