My Mini4
Anne doesn’t want to take a job out of town; she does it hoping it will strengthen her marriage. Still, when she hits the road in her beloved My Mini4, she can’t deny the rush of flying down the highway toward the unknown, windows open, radio blasting, pedal to the floor.
Here’s the lyric:
When the first Minis shipped,
I was first in line.
I’d put a hundred down to reserve one.
and though I’m not a fan of vanity plates,
I thought that car deserved one.
I asked the state to send my plates that said, “My Mini"
But I must have been a week or two too late.
The plates they sent said, “My Mini 4.”
So those were the plates my mini wore.
My first My Mini 4
Handled like a golf cart,
handled like a toy.
My first My Mini 4
was the first of a collection,
I drove with joy,
in Illinois.
The dash display was like a kid’s cartoon,
with oversized bubbles and balloons.
The transmission went much too soon,
I cried when that car died.
It made u-turns in a teacup,
did 360’s ‘round the rim.
I drove it round and round in circles,
parked it on a whim.
A picture-perfect romance
that I thought would never end.
A love affair to share forevermore.
The first of My Mini number 4’s.
My second My Mini 4,
rumbled like a mustang,
always hugged the road.
My second My Mini 4,
managed well in any weather,
unless it snowed,
then it got towed.
I found a glitch in how the car was wired.
did not perform as well as I desired.
When the warranty had expired
I made another trade.
It made U-turns in a teacup,
did 360’s round the rim.
I drove it round and round in circles,
parked it on a whim.
It stayed shiny on the outside,
but no good under the hood.
pissed when it stayed on my list of chores.
The second of My Mini number 4’s.
My third My Mini 4,
red leather on the inside,
a beauty to behold.
My third My Mini 4,
was vastly under powered,
It moved so slow
that it grew mold.
I checked for warning lights, but there were none.
No matter what I tried - it wasn’t fun.
I was doubting three was the one,
on that day I still replay…
(spoken):
I didn’t know if I should take a job out of town, so I decided to go for a drive.
It was a summer morning. Traffic was light. I glanced in my mirror and saw a semi approaching on my left. It seemed to be coming right at me. I remember thinking, “I can’t believe he’s going to hit me.” And he hit me. Long story short, the mini was totaled; I walk away without a scratch.
And I thought to myself: “This is a wake-up call from the Universe. If I want more passion in my life, I can’t sit around and wait. I have to go and get it.” Which, it turns out, is easier said than done. But guess what I did get?
It makes u-turns in a teacup,
but it craves an open road.
it gets tired of making circles.
it gets tired of feeling old.
Has a super-duper engine,
C’mon! Carry me away!
Sunroof open, pedal to the floor!
In the fourth of my minis…
Inevitable, pre-ordained,
I’m off to meet my fate!
Life is short, and I want something more.
In the fourth of my mini number 4’s!
1, 2, 3, 4!
